Kind Words About the Steiner Institute Residency Program

“I longed to take the guess work out of my care and learn the most efficient, precise, and effective approach to working with patients. I found everything I was looking for, and more, with the Steiner Method.”

Since starting the Steiner Institute Residency Program, I have seen dramatic improvement in my outcomes even after a thirty-one year career as a manual physical therapist. For context, I have owned thriving orthopedic clinics for twenty-two years, have trained and mentored many physical therapists and physical therapy assistants, have taught continuing ed courses, and have lectured and taught labs in orthopedics in PT and PTA programs. I have learned from experts all over the world and still I knew there was more to learn.

I watched Rebecca treat from a distance and I would send Rebecca my most challenging patients and they would come back changed. I wanted to learn how to do that. I was successful in resolving symptoms in the majority of my clients, but they would often return with similar symptoms. In addition, I saw patients in which their symptoms and their injuries did not match up and I was determined to understand why. Other times, I would work with patients who were so complex that I wondered where to start and how to proceed. I longed to take the guess work out of my care and learn the most efficient, precise, and effective approach to working with patients. I found everything I was looking for, and more, with the Steiner Method.

While academically rigorous, the Steiner Method is accessible and immediately applicable. Rebecca is truly a master in identifying even subtle movement dysfunctions and knowing just how to cue someone to perfect their movement pattern. The manual techniques she has developed have taken my manual skills to an even more advanced level. Rebecca also helped me learn how shock and emotions can be held in the body and limit the ability to heal as well as how to gently address this. I absolutely consider the Steiner Method to be the most integrated, objective and holistic approach to determining the root cause of an injury. It has also provided me with the skills to navigate highly complex cases, determine the most effective treatment, and ultimately help my patients heal. The level of fulfillment and sense of wonderment and accelerated learning that has resulted from this training keeps me more excited about my job than ever before and will for the rest of my life.

“I was able to begin my practice while still in the Residency Program. The practice has grown over the past 4 years to maximum capacity with a 6-8 week waiting list. It has provided me with twice the income I was making as a supervisor of an orthopedic/sports medicine physical therapy practice.

From the time I first became a physical therapist I had a vision of owning a private practice. As the years went by, I observed how other colleagues started clinics and worked hard to keep up with the ever changing landscape of insurance company contracts, reimbursement changes, and requirements that left them struggling to keep a practice alive and still give optimal care and expertise to patients.

The Steiner Method Residency Program gave me skills far beyond my physical therapy (PT) training and any advanced training I had invested in. It provided a niche that was not being practiced by anyone in my area. This gave me the courage and passion to bring this method to my patients in a private practice setting. I had done significant research on successful cash-based PT practices and having a niche that was different and desirable was the number one commonality in each successful practice.

I was able to begin my practice while still in the Residency Program. The practice has grown over the past 4 years to maximum capacity with a 6-8 week waiting list. It has provided me with twice the income I was making as a supervisor of an orthopedic/sports medicine physical therapy practice. Most importantly, it has allowed me to see my patients one at a time for full hour to 1 1/2 hour appointments and serve each patient by using a system that identifies and embraces each person’s unique needs and goals. This opportunity has far surpassed my earlier vision and given me an energy and focus to embrace this method and serve my patients with a holistic approach to healing.

“Participating in the Steiner Institute Residency Program has given me a framework that accounts for the nature of healing at all levels.

I spent the first 5 years of my clinical practice in orthopedic and pelvic floor physical therapy with the overwhelming feeling that there was more to my patients’ healing process and outcomes than the conventional manual treatment techniques and the home exercises I was instructing them in. Unfortunately, despite having taken extensive continuing education in my area of specialty, it felt like I was ill-equipped to tap into the “more” until learning the Steiner Method.

Participating in the Steiner Institute Residency Program has given me a framework that accounts for the nature of healing at all levels. It has transformed my approach to looking at the body, from postural assessment to breaking down movement patterns, and has expanded my appreciation for the power of the mind in healing.

BioActive Healing has changed my life and my approach to self-care. It has taught me a grounded and centering wisdom I can call upon during patient care that both preserves my own energy and allows me to be profoundly present to witness and facilitate the healing process.
